[ARCHIVED] Date of Record 02/23/18: RECYCLING UPDATE - Pay as You Throw (PAYT) Customers

These changes require our contracted hauler to enforce recycling regulations as stipulated in the Town's contract.

The Town of Shrewsbury is working with the contracted hauler, Pellegrino Trucking, in the development of information mailers and flyers to help educate all residents on recycling best-practices.

We apologize for the confusion and encourage people to reach out to the Town with any questions at 508-841-8508.

In the interim, we have included a few helpful tips to make recycling pickups run smoother.

  • All recyclables must be out at the curb by 7:00 A.M. on your designated recycling day
  • Corrugated cardboard must be cut, flattened and secured into bundles no more than 2 feet
  • Paper or cardboard should be placed in paper bags on top of bins
  • 30 gal. or larger barrels containing paper should have proper drainage at the bottom
  • Recyclable materials should not be put in plastic bags.
  • Only plastic bottles and jars numbered #1 through #7 may be recycled
  • Ensure that all food cans/containers are cleaned and not contaminated with food
  • Additional information can be found on the Health Department's webpage

Items not accepted for recycling:

  • Soiled Pizza Boxes, wet or soiled paper. These items will not be accepted and should be placed in Town trash bags.
  • Paint, propane tanks, aerosol, motor oil, or containers that have stored hazardous waste or other metal items.
  • Plastic bags, shrink-wrap, Styrofoam (meat trays, cups, packaging peanuts, etc). Plastic grocery bags can be returned to grocery stores or discarded in your rubbish bag.
  • Lightbulbs, window or auto glass, mirrors, headlights, dishes, broken glass, glasses, drinking cups, vases, Pyrex, or other ceramics
  • Garden hoses
  • Box Liners (cereal, shoe, cracker, etc.)
  • Button or recyclable batteries
  • Mercury-bearing items such as thermostats and thermometers
  • Medical waste and/or Sharps (needles, Eipens, or lancets)
  • Soiled undergarments (i.e. Diapers, Pampers, and Depends)
  • To learn more about where to dispose of these items, please go to the Health Department's webpage
