The Shrewsbury Board of Health is resending this communication to remind both residents and businesses that everyone must do their part to control the problem if rats are present in their neighborhood or establishment.

Previously communicated in July of 2022:

Rats have become an increasing problem in multiple communities in Massachusetts over the last several years. Rats can destroy and contaminate food and other household materials. Rats and their fleas may also transmit viruses, bacteria and parasites to humans.

Everyone must do their part to control the problem.

DEPRIVE THEM OF:

  • FOOD (avoid throwing food scraps out in the yard) / (keep trash contained in a tightly-sealed receptacle)
    and
  • WATER (drain bird baths and standing water)
