[ARCHIVED] Mattress Recycling - Things are changing in Massachusetts!

Mattress_FB_IG

As of November 1, 2022, mattresses will no longer be allowed in the trash.

New state rules require mattresses be kept out of the trash, so they can be recycled or donated for reuse.

In order to comply, Town of Shrewsbury has changed the way we collect mattresses.

What to do with your old mattress:

  • Ask retailer to collect your old mattress and box spring when they deliver your new set.
  • Visit DPW at 100 Maple Avenue, to schedule mattress / boxspring drop off. Payment must be in a form of cash or check, $55 per item. Drop off location 211 South Street, DPW Highway Garage, by appointment only.
  • You can use private disposal option – residents are responsible for the associated cost.

To help you understand these changes and the reasons behind them, the MassDEP has written

a newsletter focusing on the new Waste Bans and why they are important.
