Often overlooked by healthcare professionals, the caregiving spouse, life-partner or family member becomes the forgotten patient. The risks associated with caregiver burden, assessment strategies and overall care partner needs will be discussed. Family-centered care includes asking how a patient’s caregiver is doing and providing concrete Supportive resources and referrals. The health and well-being of the spouse, life partner or family member caregiver is critical to providing care to a person with dementia.
