[ARCHIVED] Town Manager Seeking Board and Commission Interest

The Town Manager is seeking qualified individuals interested in serving on the following Boards and Commissions: 

Board of Assessors. The Board of Assessors is comprised of a full time chairman, principal assessor, and two (2) part time volunteers appointed by the Town Manager for a term of not longer than three (3) years. The Board of Assessors, established under Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 41, Section 24, establishes and maintains valuations for all real and personal property within the community for purposes of generating tax revenues. Board of Health. The Board of Health consists of a three (3) members appointed by the Town Manager. The Board of Health, established under Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 41, Section 1, and the Health Department are involved in many activities related to public health and the environment. Commission on Disabilities. The Commission on Disabilities is comprised of five (5) members appointed by the Town Manager. The purpose of the Commission on Disabilities, established under Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 40, Section 8J, is to bring about full and equal participation of people with disabilities in all aspects of life.  Additional information on the Commission on Disabilities may be viewed here

 

Conservation Commission. The Conservation Commission is composed of five (5) members appointed by the Town Manager, subject to the approval of the Board of Selectmen, who serve as unpaid volunteers.   The primary function of the Conservation Commission, established under Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 40, Section 8C, is to preserve and protect the local wetland resource areas, as defined in the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act. Lake Quinsigamond Commission. The Lake Quinsigamond Commission consists of a chairman and five (5) appointed members, with one member from the Town of Shrewsbury who is a residential landowning abutter on Lake Quinsigamond. A unique feature of Lake Quinsigamond is its special regulatory council created to govern the uses and abuses of its water.   This distinction is shared with no other similar body of waters in the Commonwealth.  Additional information on the Lake Quinsigamond Commission may be viewed here

 

Parks and Cemetery Commission. The Parks and Cemetery Commission is comprised of three (3) members appointed by the Town Manager.  The Parks and Cemetery Commission, established under Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 45, Section 2, and Chapter 114, Section 22, meets with the Parks and Recreation Director on a monthly basis to discuss budgets, policies, and capital projects. Planning Board. The Planning Board consists of five (5) members appointed by the Town Manager. The Planning Board, established under Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 41, Sections 81A and 81B, is responsible for guiding development of land and growth within the Town of Shrewsbury. Shrewsbury Electric and Cable Operations (SELCO) Commission. The SELCO Commission is comprised of a five member (5) board, appointed by the Town Manager on staggered three year terms as outlined in the Town's bylaws.  The SELCO Commission is granted its authority, responsibilities, and obligations under Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 164, Section 56A. The Commission meets periodically in posted open meeting with the General Manager and staff of the electric and cable departments to establish policies necessary for the efficient and effective delivery of electric, CATV and Internet services to the residents and business in the Town of Shrewsbury. Board of Sewer Commissioners. The Board of Sewer Commissioners is comprised of three (3) members appointed by the Town Manager for a term of not longer than three (3) years. The Board of Sewer Commissioners, established under Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 41, Section 63, acts upon abatements and petitions for sewerage, reviews and approves all applications for sewer extension permits, and reviews the financing of proposed construction. Interested parties must be registered voters of the Town and are asked to submit a letter of interest and resume by mail to Kevin J. Mizikar, Town Manager, 100 Maple Avenue, Shrewsbury, MA or by email to jdobson@shrewsburyma.gov by no later than 4:30pm on June 7, 2021.
