Volunteers Needed for Center Re-Opening!

The Shrewsbury Council on Aging is happy to announce our grand reopening! The Center is currently planning to open for outdoor activities on May 10th and limited indoor activities on June 1st. We are looking for program/activity leaders and volunteers to help with day to day operations.

Program and Activity Leaders

The Shrewsbury Senior Center is always looking for fun and creative ways to engage our local seniors, especially in these hard times. Class times and sizes will be limited to follow social distancing guidelines. Outdoor programs can start on May 10th utilizing the grounds around the Center. Indoor programs will begin on June 1st. Policy and Procedure guides and Facility Use Agreements must be filled out and approved by COA staff prior to program start date.

Receptionists assist the COA staff to run the office and take care of guests who call and visit the Center. Receptionists will be on duty Monday through Friday 8AM-12PM or 12PM-4PM. At this time the COA is looking for one receptionist per shift. Receptionists will also be responsible for enforcing COVID-19 safety measures and social distancing protocols.

Tasks may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Answer phones
  • Register seniors for programs and activities
  • Fill out van ride slips
  • Call clients with their van pick-up times
  • Greet guests who come into the Center
  • Make copies for guests as needed
  • Fill out telephone logs to track incoming calls
  • Wiping down/sanitizing high traffic areas in lobby area
  • Miscellaneous projects as assigned

Social Distance Monitor/Crowd Control Volunteer*

Due to the current COVID-19 crisis, the Shrewsbury Council on Aging needs help with social distance monitoring at the Senior Center. Your help will ensure seniors can participate in social engagements and activities while remaining safe and socially distant. Social Distance Monitors will be on duty Monday through Friday 8AM-12PM or 12PM-4PM.

We are looking for volunteers to be present inside the Senior Center and around our outdoor seating areas. Volunteers will wear badges provided by the COA. Volunteers will be stationed at the front entrance of the Senior Center and/or asked to walk the property keeping 6’ of distance at all times from themselves, staff, vendors and the public.

Volunteers are needed to observe Center patrons, give reminders to keep social distance, and advise the Council on Aging staff of any clusters/groups forming which require attention.

Tasks may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Verbally enforcing social distance requirements and wearing facial coverings
  • Limiting groups from congregating at the Center unless part of a class or activity
  • Informing the Council on Aging staff of unsafe situations requiring immediate attention
  • Wiping down/sanitizing high traffic areas throughout Senior Center
