For at least the past 15 years, the Town of Shrewsbury has offered to their residents the collection of “One Free Non- PAYT Trash Bag” starting right after the Christmas holiday to encourage the residents to dispose of non-recyclable items such as wrapping paper and Styrofoam, which could represent potential contaminants in our recycling streams.
On December 8, 2020, the Board of Selectmen authorized the disposal of "One Non-PAY-T Trash Bag" per household for the period of December 26 through December 31, 2020.
Pay As You Throw (PAY-T) customers will be allowed to place at the curb, one (1) plastic non-PAY-T trash bag, up to 35 gallons, on your regularly scheduled collection day.
- If your normal collection falls on Friday, December 25, 2020, your collection and opportunity for “one bag free” will be on Saturday, December 26, 2020. Please note that Friday’s collections will be delayed one day due to the holiday.
- If your normal collection falls on Monday, December 28, 2020, your collection and opportunity for “one bag free” will be on Monday, December 28, 2020.
- If your normal collection falls on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, your collection and opportunity for “one bag free” will be on Tuesday, December 29, 2020.
- If your normal collection falls on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, your collection and opportunity for “one bag free” will be on Wednesday, December 30, 2020.
- If your normal collection falls on Thursday, December 31, 2020, your collection and opportunity for “one bag free” will be on Thursday, December 31, 2020.
The Board of Selectmen has taken this action to serve as a small token of
appreciation for all the Shrewsbury residents who have made the PAY-T Program
so successful during 2020.
