The Town of Shrewsbury received a MassDOT Shared Streets and Spaces grant totaling $63,514.87. The program is intended to support projects that promote public health, safe mobility, and renewed commerce by quickly providing new or repurposed space for socially-distanced walking, bicycling, dining, retail, and bus travel.
The approved project includes funding for the following:
- The construction of two new ADA compliant crosswalks on Maple Avenue proximate to the Town Center and the Town Hall Campus (Senior Center, Police Station and Town Hall) as well as municipal playing fields. This area hosts a weekly farmers market, a weekly food truck event and other municipal events. The area is also proximate to several schools in the town. This project will enhance the walk-ability and safety in this area of Shrewsbury.
- Flashing beacons at one or both of the proposed crosswalks.
- The purchase and installation of two bike racks. One at Town Hall and one at the Senior Center, both located at 100 Maple Avenue.
