Reopening Guidelines

Town Hall will reopen to the public, without the need for an appointment, on Tuesday, June 1, 2021. Please be advised that face coverings will still be mandatory for all in the Town of Shrewsbury buildings. This requirement applies to all visitors and staff through at least June 15, 2021. Customers, Residents, Contractors, Consultants, etc. will not be serviced or permitted to interact with staff without a mask. Exemptions from this rule include: those with a certain medical or disabling condition, or those communicating with a person who has a hearing impairment or other disability.

At this time, the Town of Shrewsbury is not requiring proof of vaccination from employees or visitors to Town Buildings. 

The Town of Shrewsbury urges residents, taxpayers and others to continue utilizing our online services including paying bills, applying for permits and licenses. If you wish to get in contact with a specific department, please see our staff directory at

Senior Center

The Senior Center opened for outdoor activities on May 10, 2021 with restrooms available and will reopen for indoor activities on June 1, 2021 at 50% capacity. Program and activity schedules will be posted once finalized. All guests are required to wear masks or face coverings.  Visit their website at

Transportation services through the Senior Center have resumed on a reduced service basis. At this time, ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) riders and other essential requests such as dialysis, medical appointments, work, and grocery trips are accepted. All riders MUST wear a mask at all times. For more information contact Transportation Coordinator, Cynthia Willis at 508-841-8643.


Shrewsbury Public Library

The Library will reopen to the public, without the need of an appointment, on Tuesday, June 1, 2021. Patrons can visit between 10:00am and 4:30pm Monday - Saturday to browse and check out books and other materials. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, hours will be extended until 7:00pm. Masks are required to be worn by patrons and staff while in the Library. Library staff will monitor traffic and take action if there are too many patrons in one section. The Library is requesting patrons to limit the time of their visit, and there is no congregating, lingering or gathering allowed. Patrons may stay for up to one hour and computer use in the meeting rooms will continue to be limited to one hour.  The Shrewsbury Public Library continues to offer online resources and curb-side pickup. Parks & Recreation

Various parks and courts have reopened. Spring and Summer programs will begin.  In an effort to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus please follow these guidelines & reminders when using public facilities. Please wash your hands before and after visiting the park or bring hand sanitizer. Stay home if you are sick or not feeling well. Wear a face covering. If a park or open space area is too crowded, come back later or visit another park.

What’s open?
  • Town Parks and Trails
  • Donahue Rowing Center. ( All schools and groups received guidelines)
  • State Boat Ramps, see guidelines issued by the State Fishing & Boating Access
  • Tennis courts at Dean Park, Coolidge School/Jordan Pond and Oak Middle 
  • Basketball Courts at Parks 
  • Playgrounds at Parks and Schools 
  • Restrooms at Dean Park
  • Permits issued to local existing Shrewsbury sports organizations who follow the state guidelines for Youth sports. No new sports groups accepted at this time.  
  • School grounds open except during school hours/programs.
  • Picnic Permits for small groups @ Dean Park pavilions
  • Picnic Grove at Dean Park (permits start July 1, 2021 on select dates)
  • Special Event Requests

What’s closed?

  • School grounds and playgrounds closed when school is in session.
