The Town of Shrewsbury has contracted with Hydra Tech, Inc. to assist with completing several zones of the unidirectional flushing program. They will start the project on Monday, November 25, 2019, with the initial work being to clean and exercise valves in two of the zones. This is necessary so the water mains can be isolated to allow for more effective flushing. They are also scheduled to work on Tuesday (11/26) and Wednesday (11/27) this week and will return on December 2, 2019, weather permitting, to begin the unidirectional flushing program.
The first flushing zone includes Boylston Street, the Wachusett Avenue area, a section of Gulf Street, Prospect Street and the adjoining streets, and a section of Spring Street. The second flushing zone includes the section of Maple Avenue from Main Street to Old Mill Road and the adjoining streets, Main Street from Grafton Street to Monadnock Drive and the adjoining streets, and Grafton Street from Main Street to Maplewood Road and the adjoining streets to the west. Please see the attached map for more information.
The disruption to the water distribution system is expected to be minimal during the cleaning and valve exercising process. However, residents within the flushing zones and the adjacent areas may experience brief periods of reduced pressure or discolored water. If you experience discolored water, please run the cold water from an outside faucet or downstairs bathtub, avoiding hot water use until it runs clear.
Additional updates will be provided before the unidirectional flushing begins.
