[ARCHIVED] Final Nightly Paving of Main Street from I-290 to Town Center

Main Street Reconstruction Project, PRC #602470

The Main Street Reconstruction Project seeks to improve roadway and pedestrian safety from the I-290 ramps to Maple Avenue through a more efficient and consistent road width, installation of sidewalks on both sides of the road, and improved signalization at the Old Mill Road and Ireta Road intersection.

The project consists of pavement rehabilitation, traffic signal reconstruction, new and/or reconstructed sidewalks, wheelchair ramp installation, installation and/or resetting of granite curbing, construction and/or rebuilding of retaining walls, drainage improvements, and associated signs and pavement markings.

The proposed roadway cross section consists of an 11-foot travel lane, and a 5-foot shoulder lane in each direction with accommodations’ for bicycles.

Currently… (updated as of September 10, 2019)

The Main Street Reconstruction project will be conducting final paving from September 15 to September 19.

In order to minimize disturbance to traffic, MassDOT will be paving at night from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM, Sunday night through Thursday night, starting at the I-290 Ramps.

Weather permitting; we expect this to last no more than two weeks with the majority of the work done in the first week.

Motorists should…

  • Expect traffic delays and detours on Main Street from the I-290 ramps to Maple Avenue including the closing of west-bound traffic along Main Street;
  • Be mindful of the detours for the bridge closure of Rte 140 and I-290; and
  • Be prepared to seek alternate routes.

The estimated time of substantial completion is currently November 2019.
