Solid Waste & Recycling Update from the Town Manager:
I wanted to provide an update on solid waste collections given the performance of the last few weeks. Town officials and I again met with Waste Management this morning. As a result of the meeting, Waste Management will have an additional truck, increasing from four trucks to five, on the routes each day. As you will see from the attached image, the Thursday route is disproportionate to the other routes and takes longer to get through. Therefore, additional resources will be provided Thursday to ensure it is completed on time. At some point in the future, the routes will be adjusted to optimize the daily workload. This will be communicated in detail and far in advance. https://shrewsburyma.gov/DocumentC…/…/5525/Trash-Routes-2018
Speaking for performance yesterday, Thursday July 18, there were a number of intervening factors causing the route to not be completed. A truck on the route had mechanical issues as well as a long wait time (two trucks were in line for 2 hours and a 20 minute wait time is the norm) at the incinerator where trash is dumped. This was compounded since it was Thursday, the longest route of the week. Waste Management have seven trucks in Town today to handle materials that were not collected yesterday and to manage the normal Friday route.
As a reminder, please make sure to have all items to the curb no later than 7:00 am, and please only recycle acceptable materials on the correct weeks. This speeds up the pick-up process by alleviating the need for the drivers to tag your items. In addition, this helps Waste Management plan their route patterns which will essentially improve operations. For more info click here: https://shrewsburyma.gov/documentcenter/view/5464
I apologize to the residents for any inconvenience this has caused and appreciate your patience as we work through this transition. Please be assured I will do everything in my power to ensure that this service is what residents expect.
