[ARCHIVED] Message from the Shrewsbury D.P.W. Water & Sewer Division

Water pump with text Shrewsbury Water Department and Established 1905 around pump

The week of May 28th - 31st, the Shrewsbury Water & Sewer Division will be conducting water main cleaning by the method of ice pigging in the Sewall St. - Gulf St. areas. Work will be conducted daily between the approximate hours of 9 AM - 2 PM starting at the intersection of Candlewood Dr. and Sewall St., continuing onto Gulf St.to the I-290 overpass. Work will also be conducted on the lower section of Cypress Ave. and all of Greenbriar Drive.

The process will involve the shutting off of the main water line feeding the general area daily to insert an ice slurry into the piping to scour existing sediment build-up off the interior of the main. Approximately 2500 linear feet can be done daily and there is around 10,000 linear feet of piping in the area to be worked upon. In general, the water will be off daily from 9 A.M. - 12 P.M. and flushing of hydrants from 12 P.M. - 2 P.M.

Please refrain from water use activities such as laundry and food preparation so as to not introduce any discolored water into your residential system, even when water service is restored between the hours of 9 A.M. - 2 P.M., daily. This is an additional cleaning process being used to help clean out any remaining material on the interior of the main line servicing that general area.

For any questions, please contact the Water & Sewer Division at 508-841-8506. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
