[ARCHIVED] Hearing to be Held on Fees for Federally Mandated Stormwater Regulation

Stormwater runoff is a growing environmental concern, which has resulted in the EPA requiring municipal stormwater regulations to be more stringent.

Proper management of Municipal Storm Sewer Systems (MS4s) can not only improve water quality in local water bodies, but also help communities avoid fines for failing to comply with state and federal regulations.

Under Federal Law, the Town of Shrewsbury is mandated to comply with the new Stormwater regulations. In order to comply with the new regulations, the Town is implementing a Stormwater Utility Fee to all properties (including municipal, residential, commercial, industrial, and tax-exempt). These fees will be added to water/sewer bills starting July 2019.

The Board of Sewer Commissioners are holding a public meeting on January 15, 2019, at 7:00 PM in Town Hall in the Selectmen's Meeting Room to adopt a Stormwater Utility Rate Structure. A draft of the Rate Structure is located here.

For more information on why stormwater matters, the MS4 permit, and the stormwater utility rates, please visit our Stormwater Management webpage located here.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please e-mail us at stormwater@shrewsburyma.gov or call at the Engineering Division at 508-841-8502.

*January 10, 2019. The room has been changed to the Selectmen's Meeting Room.
