Snow Removal

SIDEWALKS

  • The Highway Division maintains sidewalks along the school walking routes, the Town Center, and Lakeway Business Districts.
  • Property owners or occupants are requested to keep the sidewalk in front of and adjacent to their property clear of snow and ice.

Please cooperate so school children and other pedestrians will be able to use the public walkways and avoid having to walk into the street.

FIRE HYDRANTS & STORM DRAINS

There are over 1,500 fire hydrants.  Please help the Town by shoveling around the hydrant near your home.

To prevent street flooding, please clear the storm drains in close proximity to your property.  There are over 5,000 storm drains and clearing the snow and ice will allow rain or melting snow to enter the drainage system

PRIVATE PROPERTY

The Massachusetts State Sanitary Code states that the owner is responsible for maintaining the walkways, stairways, fire escapes, and exits in a safe condition at all times; this includes the removal of snow and ice.

WINTER SAND

Winter Sand is free and available to residents at the Highway Garage, 211 South Street, on the right as you enter the gate.  Residents may take buckets of sand and salt for their personal use.   Please do not access the salt shed for materials.  Contractors are not allowed to utilize the sand/salt pile for residents.  The sand/salt pile is accessible during normal business hours Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m to 3:30 p.m.
