The Town Center Zoning District was approved at the 2020 Annual Town Meeting.
Many New England communities have a town center that is the focal point of civic life, and this is certainly the case in Shrewsbury. The Town Center is therefore seen as an area that should be strengthened, so it becomes more of a destination with a continued traditional look and feel. New England town centers are generally walkable, consist of multi-story and multi-use buildings that are positioned close to the street and sidewalk. This traditional “main street” layout creates a comfortable environment for pedestrians and encourages people to visit more than one shop in a single visit.
