01545Together Community Art Project

Show us your Shrewsbury and help us build our tower! This winter, SPL is building 01545Together – a community art project to create a growing block tower as diverse and creative as the Shrewsbury community! As we receive blocks, we will begin building our creation where you can see it in the library window, along with showcasing it on our social media.

So, show us your Shrewsbury! Is it a park? A feeling? A hike? A building? A club you’re part of? An event? A view? Decorate a cube (or other building block shape) under 4”x4”x4” with that in mind and bring it in to us. Use your favorite art medium to create your cube (Do you sculpt? Crochet? Reuse or upcycle?) or contact us to pick up a cube to decorate! We can’t wait to see what your Shrewsbury looks like!

To participate, please register here (indicating if you need the library to provide materials or if you will be providing your own) and create/decorate/design a cube (no bigger than 4”x4”x4”).  All registered participants will receive an e-mail later this winter indicating how to submit their completed cube.

Genealogy & Family History Resources

Interested in starting or continuing your own family history or genealogy? The Genealogy Club meets virtually on the fourth Monday of the month at 7 PM. Visit the genealogy resources page for some of the resources available at or through the Shrewsbury Public Library.

Library Book Groups

The Shrewsbury Readers Book Group meets on the first Thursday of the month from 6:30-7:30 PM. We select titles from various genres and strive to be diverse in our choice of subject matter and authors. Copies of the book will be available for pick-up in a no-contact, safe manner. Please call 508-841-8609 x 3 for details.

A Cookbook Book Group meets virtually on the fourth Thursday of the month from 6:30 – 7:30 PM. We’ve planned an eclectic variety of programs designed to keep us cooking. We’ll chat with cookbook authors, local food purveyors and other foodies. We’ll learn, share ideas and maybe even find hidden culinary treasures. . .  Watch the library’s calendar page for each month's socially distant adventures in food!

Reading Glasses is a fun and casual book group for adults in their twenties and thirties, meeting on the third or fourth Thursday of each month from 7:00-8:30 pm. It's a very collaborative group - each month participants take turns presenting choices for the next read and everyone votes on a favorite. If you've ever dropped out of a book group because you didn't like the books being chosen, give Reading Glasses a try! It's more than just a book group, it's a group of friends talking about books.  E-mail Young Adult Librarian Annie Lee King to sign up.
