Lightning Safety

Lightning Safety Tips for Outdoor Recreation League Officials
  • A responsible adult should be designated to monitor weather conditions. We recommend all leagues purchase an inexpensive NOAA weather radio for obtaining timely storm data.
  • A responsible adult should be present and be able to clear the area or cancel games and practices when conditions are not favorable.
  • If you hear thunder and/or see lightning, you should immediately clear the fields and seek appropriate shelter. Wait a minimum of 30 minutes from last observed lightning or thunder before resuming activities. Suspension and resumption of athletic activities should be planned in advance.
