Residential Construction
You must have a copy of these codes in your possession.

  • Massachusetts Amendments to the IRC-2009 - CMR 780 8th Edition
Commercial Construction
You must have a copy of these codes in your possession.
  • International Basic Code - IBC-2009
  • International Energy Conservation Code - IECC 2012
  • Massachusetts Amendments to the IBC-2009 - CMR 780 8th Edition
Remember what is written on the back of your construction supervisor license (CSL)!

Failure to possess a copy of the current Massachusetts State Building Code is cause for the revocation of this license.

To find the latest requirement in the base volume: Find the topic in the International Building Code (IBC) 2009. Check the 8th Edition Base Volume - (August 2010) Massachusetts Amendments for that topic. Check the "Amendments Since August 2010" section of this page for any recent changes.

For example, after (1st) looking in the IBC for high-rise elevator requirements in Chapter 4, section 403.6 and (2nd) checking the 8th Edition Base Volume (August 2010) Massachusetts Amendments version to find that it has been amended, you'll notice (3rd) that it has been further amended recently under "Amendments since August 2010" for section 403.6.1.
