STREET SWEEPING
The Highway Division mechanically sweeps each street in Shrewsbury, Starting in March the program runs for eight-ten weeks. Town-wide street sweeping includes twice-yearly sweeping to improve stormwater quality. By sweeping up sand and other debris, catch basins are kept clean and able to function efficiently. Street sweepers also help to remove particles and chemicals that get deposited on roadways through the wear and tear of vehicle parts, combustion, and leaking engine fluids.
The 2022 spring street sweeping is on scheduled to begin in March, weather permitting.
SIDEWALK SWEEPING
The sidewalk route that the Highway Division sweeps is very similar to the route that is plowed in the winter. Sidewalks bounded by school areas and main roads were watered down to control dust, swept off with our sidewalk machine with a broom attachment. A backpack blower is utilized to remove any debris left behind and to clean around obstructions. Next, our two sweepers clean up that material, loaded it into dump trucks, and it was deposit into the landfill on Rt. 20. This protocol uses all of the Highway Division’s equipment operators to be as efficient as possible.
